Ozette Inspired

ozette drum

I’ve wanted to incorporate some Ozette elements into my designs, that were found in the Archeological Dig at the Ozette reserve. It’s not as easy as it seems, so as close as I’ve come so far is this design. The Ozette world as we found it, in the ground was preserved for 450 years.

I’m just touching the surface of what I feel is the true understanding of the Ozette village. It’s not the shapes for the surface carvings or designs; it’s how we look at the dig as a whole. (The dig); is a gift from the past. I didn’t realize at the time, but looking at my work, the design is of two worlds, “the past and the present”. One half of the whale on the drum reminds us of the past: the other is the present, and they are of the same world.
