Over the years I’ve learned different mediums in Northwest native art, and as a artist, I’ve enjoyed printing most of all. Jewelry is probably my second most favorite. The newest printing process called dye-sublimation printing has caught my eye because of the vividness of the colors. I don’t believe after printing the water base ink on the subs straight, (aluminum) gives the process the credit it deserves. In other words seeing the high quality print in person, can an individual appreciate the process.
I created a number of new prints, and a few of my limited edition prints with this new medium just to see the effect the process has on the designs. Each print is signed by me to show you that I am still learning, still continuing to labor at creating my own works of art. This process is time consuming, and like other printing processes there are ghosts that creep in when just when you feel you have it licked.

I selected this design because of the rainbow and the vivid colors that lend themselves to the new process in printing.

I’ve liked playing with my design by repeating the figure in a decretive way. I’ve never liked the idea that native art must look a certain way, art is art, and it moves with the times. Just like people, if we need to reinvent ourselves to stay alive, or just have a little fun.

Thunder man or The four brothers, call it what you like, but the design refers to the four brothers from Wattch that had different last names. Their offspring make up a large amount of the population in Neah Bay.

“Tribal Voices” are what I hear when Tribal Peoples stand up and speak. My reasoning is or what I hear when a person speaks, their speaking for many different tribes that have populated the lands on the coast. I don’t believe a person can claim to be from just one Tribe.
