A few months ago, a friend called just to check in. While we were talking, he mentioned he was feeding the fingerlings at the hatchery — and that the biologist’s report on the 2026 spawn looked strong, with the fish healthy and thriving.
As we talked, I pictured him standing right in the middle of the school of young salmon, surrounded by movement and life.
That image stayed with me. It became the inspiration for this drum — a design I’m calling Salmon Boy. It captures a simple moment of connection between a person and the salmon he cares for, and it carries something bigger: a reminder of how closely our people’s lives are tied to the water, to the salmon, and to the work that keeps these runs alive for the next generation.
